Chuck Fury is a formerly-homeless, bi-polar, Asperger’s, exhibitionist, degenerate gambler, swinger-cuck, junkie-alcoholic, with multiple personalities, who thinks he’s a “people of color”. That’s the short version. If you want the slightly longer story, read on…
Chuck Fury was born in Salt Lake City in 1972. He grew up in the Glendale area on Salt Lake’s West Side, with the exception of one year spent in Southern California from 1983 to 1984. Chuck attended South High school until its closure in 1988, at which point he was bussed to East High School, where he managed to graduate by the skin of his teeth in 1990. He did one year of Junior College before dropping out.
Chuck was a gang member as a teenager, and struggled with drug abuse, including alcoholism, into his twenties. Chuck has been sober since attending his first recovery meeting in Springville, Utah on February 4, 1997.
Chuck and a childhood friend named Aaron formed a rap group as teenagers that went by the name Brohams Two, street battling under the monikers Tempo-C and AJ, with Aaron beatboxing for Chuck. Chuck would later form the rap group Ghetto Mentality, taking on the name Smoove Daddy Cee. Members over the years included DJ Shon D, RC Hype, Burt-Locz, L-Dogg, and Madd Dogg. From 1994 to 1997 the group released singles and a studio album entitled, “Birth Of A Legacy”. This incarnation of the group consisted of Burt-Locz and Daddy Cee. They received radio play on underground radio shows in markets from Los Angeles to Washington DC, and are now considered a legend-status, pioneering force in the Salt Lake Hip-Hop scene.
Chuck Married his first wife, Robyn, in 1991 at the age of 19. They had one son, Tyrell, and would divorce 7 years later. Chuck then married his second wife, Sarah, in 1999 whom he would divorce after only one year. Chuck Married his third wife, Kim, on the sixth anniversary of his sobriety in 2003. Chuck had custody of Tyrell and Kim brought her daughter, Taylor into this ready-made family. Chuck and Kim raised Taylor and Tyrell as if they were a biological family, never making “step” distinctions. In 2014 Chuck and Kim moved to the Las Vegas area where Chuck spent some time playing poker for a living. They then moved to Asheville, North Carolina before returning to Northern Utah. Chuck and Kim separated in 2017 at which time it was discovered both suffered from Dissociative Identity Disorder. Chuck lived in his car from 2017 to 2023, ‘cause reasons. Chuck divorced Kim in 2023. Taylor and Tyrell now have families of their own, bestowing on Chuck six grandchildren, none of whom know just how twisted he truly is.
Chuck began his comedy career on December 10, 2019 when he put on a horrible display at the Bucket List Open Mic at the world-renowned Wiseguys Comedy Club, in Downtown Salt Lake City. Fully delusional, and thinking he had done well, Chuck performed again on December 17. He then decided to step onto the “Big Stage”, and do the Wednesday Open Mic on Jan 1, 2020. It was at that point he realized, he fucked up. This time Chuck bombed so hard he could not deny it. Before he could muster the heart to go back on stage, the dark time came and things shut down. Chuck did not realize Wiseguys had reopened very soon after the initial lockdowns, and did not return until July 20, 2021. But then he took the scene by storm. (18 months is a long time to think about what you could have done better.)
Chuck did his first real show for HaliPino Productions in late September of that same year at the now defunct City Limits Tavern in downtown Provo. The show was called “Provo Uncensored”, an R-rated comedy show that, ironically, took place right across the street from the world’s most famous beacon of clean comedy: The Dry Bar. Chuck has been going strong ever since. He has now done hundreds of shows in many states, and continues to work closely with Wiseguys, particularly in their Salt Lake, Ogden, and Las Vegas locations. Chuck is a Salt Lake favorite and is an integral part of the Just 3 Freakin’ Guys, Partners In Crime, and Dumb & Dirty stage shows. He does everything from hosting, opening and featuring to showcases to headlining.
Chuck was the first-ever comedian to be featured in Voyage Utah Magazine, and has been featured in Canvas Rebel Magazine, as well as doing a television feature on ABC 4Utah. He has been a guest on many podcasts and was a co-host of the popular Junkyland podcast (until they fired him for being too fun) as well as hosting the Partners In Crime podcast.
Chuck’s home club is Wiseguys Comedy Club in Salt Lake City, to whom he is eternally grateful.
